Just saw the replay of the West Ham - Charlton game. Surprised you didn't win by more.

Really enjoyed West Ham's football last season, and I think I said earlier that Pardew is quality.

Also, won't you be getting Ashton back sometime around Christmas? That can only be a boost for you.

The report I read said he won't play again this year. Mind you, if Zamora can score TWICE! in a game, and Carlton Cole proves to be a bit tasty, Ashton might have to fight for his place.

Hammers in the top 5! You've got to enjoy it while it lasts.

I see Zamora scored again last night as well. Really starting the season off right isn't he? I would have thought Harewood would be the one to knock them in. His work rate is good though. Looks like West Ham will be able to cope without Ashton for a while.

Uh, that was a pretty robust challenge by Ben Thatcher tonight...

Jesus.

In tonights other uncontrollable psycho news, Roy Keane to be new manager of Sunderland?

Oh, I forgot to mention, a sexy night for Notts County last night. Unbeaten so far this year and a cup upset!

Well done Boro! Hopefully that will put them off enough to give someone else a chance. Now if someone could just humiliate Man U, we'd have a real season going...

Salut Meedelsbrow (as Juninho called them)! A great victory over Chelski.

What I would give to have Mark Viduka in the Hearts team...

Man U look very impressive so far.

Hearts got beaten 3-0 by AEK Athens last night in a Champions League preliminary game. My dad said they cheated us out of it.

YouTube link for this now.

Pedro Mendes had a fit and needed oxygen on the way to hospital. Because Thatcher was booked at the time, the FA apparently consider the matter closed.

Also, salut, Marko Viduka! Always liked the big pie-filled goal machine.

It said on Sky Sports News today that the FA would be launching an investigation.

WTF? All they need to do is watch one replay.

Thatcher should be put in jail for it. Fucking disgraceful.

The Thatcher challenge is common assault and if the FA don't have enough balls to do anything i'm pretty sure the police will. Everyone understands that players make late, clumsy and often dangerous tackles but most of the time there really is no intent to cause harm. This, however, is disgusting. the speed at which he ran for him, especially considering it was so deep in portsmouth's half can only suggest to me that Mendes had been winding THatcher up with his vastly superior skill and Thatcher wasn't having it.

If he is not banned for at least 10 games the FA will have failed in their duty to protect players.

oh and Simmo - great to see Notts County do well. Especially considering Forest lost. hah!

Ben Thatcher should be banned 'till after Christmas. That was awful. He didn't even come close to playing the ball, and it looked more like an Ultimate Fighting Championship move or a Roy Keane challenge than anything that belongs on a football pitch. Fucking disgrace.

I wonder what he had against Pedro Mendes? Hope Mendes makes a full recovery, and Thatcher is banned for at least several months, if not the rest of the season.

Nice Adie wrote:Man U look very impressive so far.

Agreed. But then again they haven't really had much of a challenge either. Fulham, Charlton, and next up Watford. It's kind of like an early Christmas present for them here at the start of the season. However, even though the opposition has been a bit light, they still look very together this season, and they will be tough to break down.

Sorry to hear that Hearts lost. However, I'm not so concerned with you doing well in the Champions League, I just want you to win the SPL.

daniel robert chapman wrote:In tonights other uncontrollable psycho news, Roy Keane to be new manager of Sunderland?

Roy Keane at Sunderland... lovely, he'll injure half the squad in training them, and the rest will be too scared to walk onto the pitch. There will be no prawn sandwiches served at the Stadium of Light this year.

In fact, I've heard that the whole crustacean market on wearside has dried up entirely. Shrimp, Prawns, Lobsters, no one wants them... out of fear.

Hmmm. Grisly. And the ball was in touch/about to cross the line when Thatcher hit him, so what the fuck Thatcher was trying to achieve by smearing him, other than compensating for his lack of performance/lack of general footballing ability or trying to establish/revive a "hard man" rep, I don't know.

On the other hand, if he should be put in jail, then line up the black Mariahs and lets take 4 or 5 from every squad in the country. I'm not defending Thatcher - it's a shocking tackle and he's a cock, he's shit and slow (that is possibly the fastest I have ever seen him move), his attitude is crap and he's done very little for City over the years - but I think that tackle was far more about him being a knob, than "let's put the lad in the hospital".

Roy Keane deliberately put Alfie Haaland in hospital, and finished his career into the bargain, as revenge for Haaland suggesting he might have feigned injury. The result? Haaland's career is over prematurely, while Keane seems to be loved as an eccentric rough diamond or "hard man", the like of which supposedly keeps the game colourful. Crap.

I hope Mendes gets the all clear ASAFP.

the ex-leeds have evolved!

pennant in for kewell, keane in for hulse.
plus, i'm at 3-4-3 now cos there's no real reason not to. if smith comes back and ferguson plays him forward or maybe even as a striker again, he will replace milner, who probably won't play much this season all told. smith only has to come on in the last ten minutes of every scum match to net me some points.

so far this team is 4th in the league on 58 points.
not bad considering the criteria with which i picked them.

Big arse. No surprise, but...

It was nice to see Nicky Weaver get a game, though. I went with a friend to the Division Two playoff games - big screen at Maine Road and second leg against Wigan (I invaded the pitch at the end - fun!), and then that game at Wembley against Gillingham. Utter chaos, the most insane football match I've ever been to. It was a privelege to watch! And I'll always remember Weaver for his celebrations after the shoot out, watching him leg it around behind the goal while the team tried to catch him...

The end of the game was carnage, so many people had left but came rushing back when City equalised, it was like being on terraces at the end. One guy we were with didn't see any of City's goals, he'd left when the comeback goals were scored and then couldn't face watching the penalties.

Great times.

A fantastic day! A mate of mine had a ticket, so I went up to Wembley to see if I could get one off a tout. They were asking £100, £200 until a bloke who was vociferous about hating touts insisted on selling me one at face price AND NOT A PENNY MORE because my mate was wearing a Galatasary hat. I hope this man is happy and thriving wherever he is - Mr Tout-Hating Man, you are thoroughly decent! The rest of the day was just mental.

I'm really sad Nicky Weaver never really broke through. I felt really sure he'd be one of our top keepers, play for England etc, but beer, doubt and injury seemed to get the better of him. I still think of him as "young Weaver", in denial that this was actually a long time ago.

I'm telling you, have that team join the league I posted earlier, though at 58 points you would be second from bottom.

Unless you're DC Hotspur as well? Who is DC Hotspur? Good job.

Embarassingly, my girlfriend's fantasy team is doing better than mine. She's learned a lot watching football with me, though I still think she tends to pick her players based on their "cuteness".

both Nottingham Forest and Notts County are unbeaten in league games this season. Forest are top. The glory days are returning?

A sub-thread: there's a lot of hate for Cock Thatcher here, but who's your all-time most hated footballer?

I'll get the ball rolling by presenting you with the ubercunt, Robbie Savage.

Agreed on Savage, he is an ubercunt.

And when they had:

Image

at Blackburn with Sparky as manager, it was like a triumverate of irritating Welshmen. It absolutely kills me to see Bellamy and his shite tattoo in a Liverpool shirt. Just hope he keeps his mouth shut. I'm hoping for injuries to both him and Crouch (nearly useless) so that Rafa will be forced to play Kuyt and Fowler together.

However, as much as I hate him and Savage, I hate:

Image

...more. Fucking Grade A Cunt, and what the fuck is that on his upper lip? He's been trying to grow it for years.

That photo looks like it belongs here.

Also well hated is:

Image

Plays for both Rangers and Croatia and has one of those terrible Steven Seagal ponytails.

However these are all recent footballers. For my most hated footballer of all time I'm going to have to think a bit... Oh wait, I've got it:

Image

One of the most overrated prima donna cunts of all time, and what a mullet.

Blimey. City beat Arsenal! That helpls!

I presume the main reason the Arse changed grounds was that the chants of "Highbury The Library" annoyed them so much they moved somewhere that doesn't offer such a pertinent rhyme.

I dunno if there's any I actually hate, put plenty that irritate me and a few I despise.

Roy Keane?? If he'd played for my club side, I'd probably love him, but, well, he doesn't, and if he'd done what he did to Ireland to my national side for the reasons he gave, sod him. Following his lead, more and more players are flouncing out of playing for their countries for increasingly petty reasons.

Rio Ferdinand?? To be honest, I don't hate him, he's just a gormless knob but he's the embodiment of the current problem of player status within the game. His response to the drug test fiasco seemed so arrogant, given how much he's paid, what he was actually asked to do and how he responded to it. "You mean, those rules apply to me?" The way all his millionaire mates in the England team rallied round was even more galling.

Umm, that's the top of division three mind you. The glory days are still a long way off.

Well done City, though I have to say Arsenal just don't look motivated at all this year, and it's almost like they're afraid to shoot. They've been playing to much 5 a side in practice or some such. They need someone who isn't afraid to shoot from outside the 18 yard box, and someone who knows how to head the ball, and they don't have either. Lots of pretty passing, but no result.

Argh! This is the winner! This one! Argh!

It's the hanging on that has irritated me... 'special relationship' with David Beckham? What, that Beckham is one of the best football players of his generation and you played behind him on the pitch? This has been Neville's making, being an average player in great teams, has somehow made him a legend, and a 'model pro'.

I have somewhere at work a computer generated mock up from the Sun of how the England team meeting may have gone when Ferdinand was suspended. It's stupifying. I will scan and post at my earliest oportunity.

Meantime, watch his attempted tough guy handshake with Patrick Viera. Again, Roy Keane (also deeply hated) has instigated everything, and right at the end Gary turns up to try and get some reflected glory.

Thanks for ruining yet another morning by making me think of you, Gary fucking Neville.
