Having Fun On Stage With Fugazi

Postby J. Burns on Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:05 pm

Hey folks,

Right now I'm working on a project that I've been threatening to do for years: assembling a Fugazi album consisting of their stage banter, in the style of "Elvis Having Fun On Stage" or the Venom 7" that Ecstatic Peace put out. I've got a huge batch of the official live series and some other bootlegs that I'm working with.

The impetus for doing this now is that Guy is coming with the Vic Chesnutt band at the end of the month, and forum member tallchris is excited about delivering a copy of this compact disc to a member of Fugazi personally. I'll probably send a few more hard copies to Dischord, as well as making it available online for fans of the band.

I'm looking for a couple key shows that I've lost. There's the 3/25/02 Birmingham AL show at Sloss Furnaces, where a young man with a southern accent asks Ian to "quit bitching about the dancing."

Anyway, I'm not trying to create a free-for-all for Fugazi bootlegs, but if you have any live recordings that I don't that feature any amusing band/crowd interaction, please PM me or email me at thejamesburns(at symbol)gmail(dot)com, and let me know what you have, your help is much appreciated. I hope Fugazi fans (and the band themselves) get a kick out of this stuff.

Yeah, I haven't gone through the entire official live series, but I'm pretty sure that's in the DC show from 1993. That's a classic.

Guy calls out a guy heckling Lois and discusses the mating habits of bonobo chimps on one of the 1995 Irving Plaza shows. That shit makes the cut for sure.

Hey, thanks for the encouragement!

Still REALLY need to find that Sloss Furnaces show. Let me know if you have it!

I'm probably going to be working on a big chunk of this over the weekend.

I didn't think fun was allowed at a Fugazi show

Do a CD of nothing but Ian's lectures to the audience

Wait that would have to be a triple-disc box set

Opening forty seconds would be better titled "Curb Your Fugazi".

Anyone have any good ideas for a site that I can upload this thing to that will stream it and not cost me very much (or any) money?

You should send it to Henry at Chunklet. I'm sure he'd get a chuckle out of it, and put it on his site?

This deserves a bootleg vinyl release. It'll be the new Metallic K.O. Which in turn will probably spark a Fugazi reunion. Eh eh?
