This "Goo" cover makes me think of my old L.A. friend/crush, Lxxxx Sxxxx.

Lxxxx's (asshole abusive) boyfriend was friends with Pettibon. Pettibon spent a lot of time with Asshole and Lxxxx around the time that he did this cover. He even did a large drawing (of a horsie) directly on to one wall of their apt.!

The woman on the "Goo" cover has the same glasses, and holds her cigarette in exactly the same way, and has exactly the same kind of hairstyle, that Lxxxx did. She has Lxxxx's exact presence. It's a bit hard to explain.

This has never been verified, and the likeness is not really that great (Lxxxx was much more beautiful) but I think Lxxxx was the inspiration for the "Goo" cover woman.

Lxxxx was very inspiring.

Someone somewhere on the 'net suggested that the illustration is at least partly from a photo of David and Maureen Smith (relatives of the Moors Murderers) on the way to court. I can't dig up a link to the photo now, but it was a striking resemblance. This isn't to contradict Angus, of course--there's no reason it can't be both.

I never heard that, but I know that Pettibon has always gotten his images from looking at photographs or illustrations almost exclusively.

What I think is that my Lxxxx (who also appeared in a couple of the movies he made at the time- Weathermen '69, etc.) just seeped in there.

I have a brief Rollie Fingers story: Throughout grade school and junior high, I was a really good baseball player. (This all stopped when I discovered girls, guitars, and Cheech and Chong movies.) My last name happens to be Jenkins, so my obvious baseball nickname was Fergie Jenkins. That was fine, but I'd always loved Rollie Fingers and his facial hair, so I asked some friends if they could call me Rollie instead. It just sounded better. Instead, they called me Fergie Fingers which I didn't like at all, so we all agreed to go back to Fergie Jenkins. A few guys called me Fergie all throughout high school, even though I had long since stopped playing baseball. In retrospect, Fergie Fingers is a damned good nickname. It even has a ring of "mafioso" to it. That is all.
