Boss Analog Delay - sort of Dave Grohl-ish

Wait, you said distortion.

JCM900 50W SLX - sort of Marshall-ish

EHX LPB2ube (again, really dumb name), which I talk about here and here.

I like the tone possibilities, particularly with the two channels cascaded, even though I am not fully convinced that it's not starved plate. (There is a transformer inside, but there are also light bulbs on the circuit board.) Also, the durability is not that good--one screw holds the circuit board off the chassis, and when it inevitably loosens, your chassis will go live. But again, I like the tone options, which range from bright sparkle to responsive to edgy to crunchy to slabs-o-distortion.

No pedals and no effects. I just plug my guitar directly into my amplifier.

Unlike most people I don't need piles of effects and pedals to get a good sound. If you don't sound good when plugged straight into an amp, you should consider playing another instrument or not playing at all.

Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal
MXR Distortion+
Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

I use the HM2 set with the high all the way up and the low all the way down, just for a weird painful tone every now and then

The MXR is my main distortion, I love the pedal.

I always leave the pickup booster on to drive my amp into slight break up, and I'll boost everything on the EQ as well to get distortion at times. So those two aren't actually distortion pedals, but that's how I use them pretty much.

I also have a Russian Big Muff Pi in the chain at the moment, but I hardly use it unless I'm playing a song from Siamese Dream, ha.

I was going to do an image search to post pictures, out of boredom, but I have a picture with all the pedals anyways.

If I had a two-channel amp that was not in dire need of a tube change and a re-biasing, I probably wouldn't use any pedals...or maybe very sparingly. I've got a modified DS-1 that is my main, as well a Boss MT-2 that turns my 15w EL-84 amp into a towering inferno of metal madness.

- Zvex Fuzz Factory
- Electro Harmonix Microsynth (square wave function serves as a nice, rich distortion)
- Rat II, modified by Effector 13...

then into an Electro Harmonix Polychorus...

then a volume pedal...

then into a Boss DD-20 Gigadelay...

then into an iMac with Ableton 5...

and then my amp.

Recently I've been plaing primarily clean straight into my amp (old fender pro reverb) with a Vox Valvetone forjustsome slight boosting.

Also in my collection.

Ross Distortion
Shin-Ei Fuzz Wah
Audioworks FET distortion
Zeus Distortion Overdrive

I think that's it for gain pedals.

I use a homemade one - not made in my home - but it has a tone and a gain knob, and otherwise looks like a small silver brick. Apart from that, no other pedals at all.

Off and on:

Zvex machine - sounds horrible in a really unique way. Like a blown speaker or a tube amp just after shutting off the power. Really great for bass because it dosen't clip and compress, instead it creates crossover distortion.

Metasonix Agonizer - Yes, it was stupid expensive and has silly names for the controls, but it's fucking amazing and I will never sell it. It squeals, chirps, oscillates, threatens to destroy speakers, melts/slays face - without even a signal.

Then there's always the Rat R2DU, an early pawnshop find that's still cool

Shie Ei Exciter. Has a crappy wah /volume thing and two settings, "surf" and "hurricane". But the best part is a little button at the top of the pedal that sets off a siren over top of the guitar signal. Both the fuzz and the siren seem to be completely unaffected by whatever guitar signal is run thru the box. I guess it's more of a noise generator than a distortion pedal. Its very obnoxious.

Also use an original super fuzz.

Would also like to find a Roland Bee- Baa.
