Silkworm Tribute Record website/update

Postby Ike on Sun Jun 04, 2006 7:38 am

Hey Folks,

I know there are a lot of fans of SKWM/Bottomless Pit here AND the SKWM message board is going away, so here goes.

Starting next week Saturday (June 10th silkwormtributerecord.com will be up for ordering information, mp3's, contributing artists, and related materials.

I'm posting this here in case Tim takes the SKWM message board down today or tomorrow.

This record should be out by early August, but I'll be taking pre-orders in early July--just as soon as I send the disc/cover art off to be manufactured.

One last request: If anyone has a decent picture of the SKWM quartet, either on stage or just hanging out, I'd love to use it for this project.

I thank you all kindly.

i'd offer some money to help with hosting costs to keep the skwm board up, if that is the issue.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for the offer. I'm trying to figure out a way to trick you into giving me money, but I'm just not coming up with any good lies.

Truth is that the spam on the SKWM message board has gotten to be crushing. We never made people register or anything, which worked fine up until just recently.

I can't afford to spend so much time on it, and it's not getting enough traffic to put up a registered-users-only board, given that I would have to learn myself how to do that from scratch.

Also, while I am genuinely sad to turn it off, I sort of feel like it has served its purpose and should become history, just as the band has become history. I was going to turn it off anyway after the last SKWM record comes out (October 2006), but the spam spurred me to do it earlier.

The rest of the site--front page updates, discog, tour journals, etc.--will remain online as long as I have the money to keep it up. It may get more useful as a musical archive, as well.

Thx,

TM

I can do SKWM hosting. Like free of charge (as soon as you send me all that merch you promised!)

I know the board mgmt is a bitch, but for the rest of the site, my services are at your disposal.

Long live the worm!

Oh yeah, and I am so excited about this comp. Just finished my contribution last week!

ach, sad to see the board go, the first message board I ever frequented, many excellent hrs of work time were wasted there. Thank you very much for helping to pass the horrible "afternoon hours" at the shipping dock I used to work at! Salut the Worm!

The SKWM board hasn't allowed me to post for about a year and a half now, it says I've been banned. Still, sad to see it go.

Sad indeed to see it go, but entirely understandable. I too spent quite a lot of time there, sometimes visiting compulsively. It was nice to find concentrated in one place a number of people who got the beauty of the band, even if we were just talking about whatever.

BTW, what exactly did you do, Braden?

If there is ever a point when you need money to keep the general site up, Tim, I will happily donate. Or barring that, at least setting up someplace to store Michael's tour journals.

I don't think (hope) I did anything. It just stopped working for me one day, I even tried on different computers, no go. I was actually going to write Michael about it, but ran out of time on my lunch break. This, sadly, was the day before he passed.

Hey Ike,

Real Quick.
This needs to change to function:
<a href="silkworm.net">silkworm.net</a> and <a href="joelrlphelps.com">joelrlphelps.com</a>.

<a href="http://www.silkwom.net> and <a href="http://www.joelrlphelps.com">

The www may be inconsequential, but the http:// is not. Wont work without it.

.22 has recorded a version of "Raised By Tigers" (from "In The West") for the Silkworm tribute record. We hope that you enjoy it.

Many thanks to Ike Turner for his great work on this record.

Nice work, BRW! And yes, many thanks to Ike for putting this together. (Full disclosure: I recorded a version of "Shitty Little Yacht" for this as well.)

Good job BRW!

Such a great Silkworm song, from a great record, which is often overlooked.

My band was going to record a cover of "Slave Wages", but we were never able to get around to it.

Right on!

By this time next week I'll be sending a disc to be mastered.

The artwork is done. Waiting on two little liner note things.

I was thinking of calling it "The Exception to the Rule", as I find this to be one enjoyable, massive record. Just great!

Mp3's, paypal, and other shit will be posted soon on silkwormtributerecord.com.

You are all great!

The Raised by Tigers is so good. I like it, yes.

I may have mentioned my contribution in a previous post, but linked to blog instead of SKWM page. Here is my corrected link for the *joesepi* silkworm contribution.

We should try to put together a couple shows to showcase such release... Ike?

BRW, let's shanty soon.

Braden,

I never did figure out what was up with that.

Someone on your ISP might've spammed the site, or something.

Obviously, you personally were not banned.

As to the material at hand: frankly, I didn't expect to find too many of these covers listenable, mostly due to my own prejudices and so forth.

But the versions I have heard thus far are uniformly flattering. I would be touched by the effort alone, but the results are really very good.

I'm shocked. I can't get through all of them right now and expect to keep it together for work, but I'm shocked. I'm shocked that they're so good, and I'm shocked that people went to the trouble to learn the songs and record them.

Thank you.
