Hey:

I have conflicting feelings right now. On one hand, I want this forum to be a free-flowing, unsupervised series of exchanges between peers. on the other hand, Cheap Trick are friends and clients, and I don't know how they feel about this bootlegged copy of a session floating around out there. The bootleg didn't come from here (I have my suspicions about which of their former employees used a cassette dub to "get even" with them), but the session was recorded here, and that places a responsibility on us (me) to be circumspect in discussing it.

Please don't embarrass the studio by trading bootlegs of sessions from here on our website. If you want to "turn" someone "on" to something like where to get bootlegs of sessions done here, please do it privately.

A general discussion of file trading appears elsewhere on this forum with many resources listed in this regard. I mention this because I am about to pull a dick admin move and remove the link in this thread. In this thread, such a link is rude to Cheap Trick (who are friends and clients) and inappropriate for us (me) (Electrical Audio).

Wow, that was so fair it was disgusting. I'm not even being sarcastic either.

No, really. Applause from the peanut gallery.

I've been curious about the purpose of this recording. Rick Nielson sheds some light in this article from: BraveWords.com.

As for the re-recorded Albini In Color album, "we haven't made any plans for it, but we didn't record it for a joke," he quips. "We didn't go at it trying to come up with crazy new arrangements, but sonically we never liked In Color. The songs were good, but sonically it's wimpy and we're not wimpy. We left before it got mixed and were told 'We'll fix it in the mix' by our record company (back then) and our ex-manager. Well, they went the other way," Nielsen says finishing his thought.

Let's hope this gets a proper release.

i'm not bumping this to stir up any of the mixed feelings here, but did anyone see this article?

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/art ... le1205531/

they make the tiniest mention that "in color" was re-recorded b/c they didn't like it sonically, then go on to imply that it's actually set for release.

having heard the oft-circulated bootleg of this i would very much enjoy some kind of oficial release, but i basically just wanted to pass this on to anyone who would be interested.

later!

From what i've heard of the album, it's way rawer than the official release, and I wished that someone had considered releasing it, but that's just my two cents. I also thought that the official record was not as raw as it should have been--the demos that were tracked at Ardent in or around about 1975 for "California Girls" and "Come On, Come On", and even the earlier version of "I Want You To Want Me" were way rawer, and kicked all sorts of ass. I like the sheen of the official version at times, but the mix is holding the band back, especially on the rockers.

I've heard the bootleg version of In Color, and it's far more representative of the band, and sounded like the Cheap Trick I have loved for many years. I remember a feeling of disappointment when I got the official version in 1979.
