Terrin Durfey (Pinback, Boilermaker) 1974-2008

Postby KrisPoulin on Tue Oct 28, 2008 11:22 am

Sadly, Terrin passed away early this morning. His cancer came back in a bad way just prior to the most recent Pinback tour (mid-Sep through last week) and, obviously, he was not able to do the tour. He spent that time in and out of the hospital, trying all manner of treatments, remaining unfathomably positive, and being with his amazing family (wife and 6-year-old son).

Now would be a great time to visit the Terrin Durfey Foundation website:

http://www.myspace.com/terrindurfeyfoundation

His family could use all the help they can get.

FYI, Terrin most recently played keyboards, bass, and guitar in Pinback, as well as playing bass & singing in The Jade Shader. You may remember him from the great, '90s-era, San Diego band Boilermaker, too.

Such terrible news. Boilermaker's 1998 self-titled album is one of my all-time faves.

That's a shame. I saw Pinback a few weeks ago and they were very emotional about his situation.

My warmest possible condolences to his family and friends. I know what this is like and know they're going through a very rough time right now. These things happens so quickly and I know they're still in shock. My heart goes out to them.

Totally sad. I never met him, but I know Pinback's tour manager and the guy who I think he took over for unless there was someone in between. They were collecting money for him at the show at Bottom Lounge a couple of weeks ago.

Shitty deal. I've got a friend/old bandmate who's been battling a brain tumor for the last 5 years. Sympathy.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I was just listening to Pinback's Summer in Abaddon the other day and really enjoying it, especially "Sender," which I find inexpressibly sad and evocative.

I lost this CD for like four years and found it just a few months ago. It was in the case for NHL '03.

I have never heard of either of these bands, but I hope that Mr. Durfey's wife and son are handling this in the best way that they can.

I couldn't begin to imagine losing my parent at 6.

That is fucking dreadful news. I'm really shocked. We shared a tour with Terrin, Kris & Pinback almost a year ago. What a fucking great guy. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. So very sorry to hear...

Boilermaker toured with Boy's Life and played in a living room in Austin in a house I'd eventually end up living in.

I played hacky sack with those guys.

He's two years younger than I am.

This is terrible news. My condolences all around.
You call me a hater like that's a bad thing
